Radical Consistency: Choosing to Do a Thing and Doing it Until It's Done.

"It is amazing what we can do if we simply refuse to give up." -Octavia Butler

Octavia Butler said it best, "It is amazing what we can do if we simply refuse to give up." Radical is defined as relating to or proceeding from a root or origin or fundamental. Consistency is defined as marked by harmony or steady continuity.

Radical consistency, then, is the root of harmony or the origin of steady continuity. Radical consistency is an active decision to be so intentional about establishing and sticking with a routine and choosing to do it daily.

Let's do an activity together, grab some paper, and take five to ten minutes to do some radical reflection.

First, let us start with some deep breathing. Meditation is the return to breath. Breathwork allows us to literally calm our nervous systems, giving our brains more oxygen, improving our mood, reducing stress, and even lowering blood pressure, just to name a few of its many benefits.

Now, exhale four a count of four, hold the breath for four counts, and release the breath with audible noise. Do this a few times, until you physically feel some relief. Take a moment to notice how your jaw feels, notice if your fists are clenched, and if your shoulders are tense. If so, repeat for a few more breaths.

Set a timer for five minutes, play some music you enjoy, and answer these questions to the best of your ability and do not forget to think BIG.

  1. If there were no limitations, what would your "perfect day" look like? (What time would you prefer to wake up/go to sleep, what would you do, etc.)

  2. What do you want more time to do or enjoy? (Think rest, spend time with family, enjoy new activities/events, etc).

  3. What does your "dream career" look like? THINK BIG. (Multiple streams of income, travel, passions, etc.)

  4. What does your ideal wellness look like? (mental wellness (therapy/holistic practices/medications, etc., build muscle, gain/lose weight, )?

These are just a few things to get your brain active and thinking. I have found that when I allow myself the space to daydream, to write things down, and to speak positively over my thoughts and myself, that I am more likely to stick up with my goals and to see them through until they are done.

Cheers to being closer to our dreams by implementing radical consistency in our day-to-day lives.
